Regardless of whether you are a guy or a girl, if the weekend ahead has a night out with friends in its schedule, the chances are you will give a second thought to what you are going to wear. Here are some pretty universal tips that will help you not only to look fantastic, but also feel comfy and ready to dance and chat all night long!
We all have that one favorite dress or that one favorite shirt. This is not the piece of clothing you want to choose if you have a wild party ahead of you; spilling drinks, leaning on and touching untidy bars and a considerable amount of sweat while dancing are all unavoidable. Thus, consider picking something that looks great on you but isn’t your prized possession. The same rule applies for jewelry – perhaps don’t wear your most expensive watch or a ring you take of every time you wash your hands and constantly leave on the sink.
Depending on what the weather is like outside, you might want to wear a coat that you will leave hanging upon entering. Don’t just wear whatever, especially if you are aiming at higher end bars and clubs – this is how the bouncer will first see you so if you are wearing something shaggy, you might not go far past face control. What you wear underneath, though, is more important. Wearing a coat allows you to leave with clothes that you will party in and nothing else, which is great. If you do find yourself wearing a jacket that you want to take off, make sure you leave it somewhere safe, and in a place where you won’t forget about it!
Do try out some interesting combinations of clothing; going out with close friends is a great time to use clothing to communicate messages about your personality, especially because in social situations like that you greet people by their looks!
This one might be for the ladies; yes, heels look great, but when was the last time you spent 7 hours wearing them? Probably the best piece of advice would be to consider the purpose of the night out – if you are hoping to simply dance, party, have fun and catch up with your friends, go ahead and wear something that provides you at least a tiny bit of comfort. It does not need to be a pair of old sneakers, but it does not need to be 12cm high heels. If, however, meeting new people and a prospective partner is of more interest to you, than go ahead and wear whatever makes you feel your best self!
If you plan to be dancing a lot, you probably don’t want any kind of bag with you. However, you might not be able to avoid one if your dress has no pockets; in that case, choose one that is small enough to go unnoticed when thrown over the shoulder on the dance floor, but big enough to fit your essentials. Guys are a bit more blessed as they can usually carry everything they need in their pant pockets. Be careful though! It is much easier to slip a hand into someone’s pocket than a closed purse and having your belongings stolen is not a great way to finish a fun night.
